We’re number two! We’re number two!

by Lynn on April 23, 2010

Sometimes, being number two is awesome.

Clay Aiken
was an American Idol runner up,
yet he sold more records than every other Idol winner except Kelly Clarkson.
I’d say he’s a huge success!

If you placed 2nd at the Masters golf tournament, you won $810,000.
Even though you didn’t get a green jacket, you brought home a really nice paycheck.

The 2nd most popular American movie is Star Wars Episode IV.
It cost 11 million to make, earned 797 million worldwide and got 10 Academy Award nominations.
Most studios would LOVE to make a movie that good!

The 2nd most listened to radio talk show is The Sean Hannity Show with over 16 million listeners.
If 16 million people wanted to hear what you had to say, that’s amazing!

.

No doubt, being number one is really special;
but you can still do well even if you don’t bring home the trophy.
It all depends on how we define success.

.

So, how do you define success?
Specifically, what do you need to accomplish in order to feel successful?

I feel successful if I am productive and can still squeeze in some fun during my day.

I feel successful in having assisted my wife in raising three children who live happy lives, are able to take care of themselves and seem to be doing what they want in life.

I associate success with happiness. If I’m happy and content, I’m successful.

I think finishing what you have started is a great way to say success.

Win or lose you finished/completed/achieved/overcame whatever you began

As my kids chant, farr too often,
“First is the worst, second is the best. Third is the one with the hairy chest.”
Geez, I hope I never come in 3rd place. That just doesn’t sound appealing at all!!

As long as my husband recognizes, I feel accomplished. If he doesn’t, even if my accomplishment is huge, it might as well not have even happened.
