Why dogs dress up

by Lynn on April 7, 2010

It’s boring to wear the same thing every day.
Even if it’s fur.

Sometimes, problems arise that even a lush fur coat can’t solve.
What if the yard is suddenly overrun with bunnies?

With one accessory, the problem is solved…

These days, everyone has an opinion about domestic policy.
Even canines want to express their political views…

“Vote Dog-publican!”

It’s difficult to resist the urge to see how the other side lives.
Dogs try to be cool cats, but they rarely succeed…

This dog ends up looking like Hugh Hefner!

There are some days when the biting wind renders a fur coat useless.
Dogs have no choice but to reach for a colorful scarf
to keep their ears warm.

Occasionally, a dog just wants to be her favorite movie characters.
Hermione Granger, anyone?

Dogs can’t understand why humans get into such a tizzy
when it’s time to dress up for a wedding.
Clearly, a festive hat is the way to go.

So, the next time you see a smiling dog…

She’s probably getting ready to raid your closet.

It is nice to see that a dog that takes life so seriously can relax and dress up. Ya know forget about taking care of Lynn’s every whim for a change.

You have such a beautiful pup and so patient. I can’t even get my two to look at the camera (even with a treat).

With each photo I thought “oh that is so cute” and then it just got better! Thanks for sharing Lynn. I really chuckled at Hugh Hefner, Scarfy dog and the wedding hat. So fun. I hope your dog has more outfits for us next week!

Dude. Your dog didn’t freak out on you? I’m pretty sure that means you need to go on Letterman. Also, I can’t get my 6 year old to sit still when I’m dressing her. I suppose this cuts my chances of getting on Letterman.

Lynn, great post…I was going to put bunny ear’s on Josie for our Peds visit to the hospital, but with her funny ear’s, one ear up and one ear down, I figured, why? I left them alone…but she does wear funny collars and jackets every now and then. Hope you are doing well. Love you, Woof! Josie and Josie’s mom, MB

That is hilarious. I have a friend that made a calendar with pictures of her dog in seasonal costumes. I gave her a seriously hard time about that. She needs to have some kids!

One of my favorite things to do – see my dogs all dressed up for whatever occasion it is. I’m particularly fond of the lovely hat that would be perfect for any wedding or afternoon tea.

Lovely fashions–quite a statement. I am amazed at how tolerant that dog is. If I tried that with my cats, I’d end up in the hospital pronto.

I just love the first photo! You can just feel the sunshine, just like your doggy!

Um, but, yeah, this is doggy humiliation, forcing them to wear people clothes! You can really see your doggy’s pain in the cat impersonation photo!

Great photos!
