Proof that birds like Dancing with the Stars…

by Lynn on May 8, 2010

Last autumn, the bottom fell out of our hand-painted birdhouse.
I placed the little house on our railing until I could replace the floor.
I was thinking of installing perhaps an oak laminate, or maybe marble tile.

I didn’t think anyone would use the birdhouse, because it has no floor and it’s rickety.
It also has an ugly pot blocking the view. Plus, it sits two feet from our living room.
However, the housing market must be pretty bad in the woods.
Someone moved into the birdhouse without a floor.
Turns out, a deck railing is a solid foundation.

The birdhouse is occupied by a little wren… she is camera shy.

However, the eggs posed nicely for their portrait.

.

I hear the wren murmuring to her eggs while we watch Dancing with the Stars.
Her soft chirps calm me when the judges lecture the dancers.
I take those lectures too personally.
Should I correct my posture
and tuck in my fanny?

.

Luckily, the wren thinks my cha cha is just fine.
By the way, she thinks Evan is going to win.

Maybe you can capture a photo of the babies when they hatch. I’d like to see Evan win – or Erin but she’s a long shot.

I love bird eggs. They always have such wonderful patterns to them. <3 As a little girl I always wanted to take them out and hold them but I also wanted the mother to come back, which everyone told me she wouldn't if I touched them. Good luck with your new neighbor I hope they aren't too noisy when the babies come ^^

That is a brave little wren family. I hope the eggs hatch successfully and the babies grow up and fly away to explore the world.

The housing market has hit the woods? Oh goodness….just wait, it will hit bad in the ocean and the fish will be jumpin’ on dry land!

Loved this! So sweet. :)

Would love to see the little wrens peeping out and saying ‘hullo’ to the world! Happy Mother’s Day!

Please take a bungie cord and tie down the house so a storm does not blow it over. We set a bird house on the charcoal grill on our porch and bluebirds moved in before we got it hung up. This is the third year they have nested in it. No grilling for us anymore. Last year a storm blew the house over and the 5 hatchlings were lost. This year I bungie corded the house down. No storms will get it now. Without a bottom it will be east to clean the house out after they use it this year. It is good to clean them out after each nesting season. To rid the house of lice and such.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
