My husband sees right through me

by Lynn on June 9, 2010

My husband said, “What’s on the deck railing?”

I sensed his disapproval.  I cautiously replied, “I’m growing some plants for my garden.”

My husband grinned. “Really? Your plants look like they’re sitting in a pond.”
I bristled and walked over to the seed tray. Crud! It was full of rain water!
“It’s a hydroponic seed starter.” I quickly explained.

“See how the basil is flourishing?” I pontificated. “Some plants prefer wet growing conditions.”
My husband frowned and peered into the water. “Hey, I think I see a fish!”
“No,” I improvised, “that’s the root system of the tomato seedlings.”

“I think we’d better get some fish food, just in case,” My husband murmured.
“Don’t worry. Hydroponics is the new thing in gardening.” I assured him.
“Let me know how it works out.” He smirked as he walked away.

Even though my husband can see right through me,
I still like to pretend that I  know what I’m doing.
It’s called “Keeping the Dream Alive.”

HAHAHA!!! You still look like you have better gardening sense than me! (not that that’s saying much)

I’ve got a few “hydroponic” pots. I’m glad to know that’s what they are!

What a wonderful place your deck railing is. Hydroponic gardening. A fish pond. No wonder the wrens decided to build their nest in the house you placed their. You would think a chemist would be delighted at your planning instead of smirking.

oh my goodness….i have to give you some serious props for being quick on your toes. i would have sat there and just stumbled over some random nonsensical words as i tried to come up with some smart sounding reason to explain my rain glutted plants! of course, i’ll never find myself in this situation because i learned long ago that alison does NOT fool with plant life. i kill them too quickly and it’s just not fair to the little fellas. ;)

I think I am successfully killing my cacti as I type…you know how much talent THAT takes?? Killing a plant that doesn’t even need watering….tal-ent…

I would just say that’s the beginning of a soup stalk, and then add some lentils… ;)

lol—LOVE this! Sounds like some of my gardening adventures. My latest is to grow loofahs! Who knew they were veggies when little. I’m probably going to have a plant that can audition for “Little Shop of Horrors!”

My man does the same thing. Trying to bluff my way out of it is useless because he just…knows.

It looks like we are getting the same type of downpours!
It has been so wet in Portland (OR) that all my veggies are still inside. The kitchen looks like a jungle. Definitely giving Jack some competition in the whole beanstalk department.
Hey, there are still green bits on those plants. I BET you could save a few. “)
Good luck!
