Nibblers have invaded my garden

by Lynn on July 28, 2010

Here is what these flowers are supposed to look like:

Here is what most of my garden looks like:

It’s embarrassing.

It’s just not right.

It’s a crime.

I kept looking for a culprit,
but he was a sneaky, cunning little devil.

But today I got lucky.
I finally spotted my nemesis.

Unfortunately, now that I’ve found him, I don’t know what to do about him!

Any suggestions?

at least you have flowers. I have a notorious black thumb and manage to kill even non-killable plants. :P

What is that little varmint? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one of those but I’ll sure be on the lookout from now on.

well, you could go all hippie and feel good about providing food for those little bugs who are an important part of the life cycle or you could go all Dick Cheney and use something nasty to smote them.

was that helpful?

Ugh! I’ve got critters eating up my plants too! Don’t they realize that I put a lot of hard work into keeping those plants alive? What’s worse is they’re eating my herbs. Those are for ME to eat, not some nasty bugs!

That’s dreadful. We had sunflowers and these catapillers did the exact same thing–except they left big gaping holes in each petal!

Very interesting article, thanks. Keep up the good work.

Hungry little boogers aren’t they? They sure eat a lot. I hope you find a way to keep them off your flowers and not just transfer to something else in your garden.

Insecticidal soap if you are organic, Sevin dust if you are not. Looks like cicadas. The usual cautions apply — read and follow all label directions, use only on plants listed on the label as safe to put the chemical on.
