My dog likes to smoke Marlboros.

Sure, she looks like a sweetheart.
Don’t be fooled.

There is something she isn’t telling me.
I know, because she can’t look me in the eye.

I’ve been trying to uncover her secret for weeks.
Her unspoken guilt is tearing our family apart.
Not to mention this…

What’s causing such weirdness? What’s wrong with my dog?
I figured it out when I saw this at a nearby school:

This explains why she keeps asking to go outside to see the duck and the fawn.

Caution January 21, 2011 at 10:40 am: A while back we had some work done and the workers took several smoking breaks in our backyard. For weeks afterward, our dog had cigarette breath and it took us a long time to figure out that she was eating the butts. I’ve always wondered if she went through withdrawals when cleaned up those old butts and thereby deprived her of her newly acquired habit.
